The initiative to transfer the plot and real estate objects was initiated by Ungheni City Hall. As arguments, the local authorities referred to the Regional Territorial Development Plan of the Ungheni region, which has the status of a regional center-pole of economic growth.
The Ministry of Defense agreed that these properties are no longer used by the ministry for their intended purpose, and their maintenance entails significant and progressive expenses. Thus, after their transfer, the Ministry of Defense will be relieved of additional expenses, and Ungheni will use these properties for its development.
At the same time, the government changed the purpose of the land plot. Until now, it was intended for industry, telecommunications and other special purposes. Now the land plot will be used for construction and improvement.
“A multifunctional hall will be built on the site of the former military unit, a park will be arranged, as well as social infrastructure for citizens will be developed,” Artur Mizha, Secretary General of the Government, said at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“Just as we helped other towns – Chisinau, Balti, now we will help the town of Ungheni. A European project for citizens will be realized, which will change the image of the city,” Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
