The project implementation period will be 30 months, and the team’s efforts will be aimed at bringing the GIT’s activities in line with European standards and best practices, as well as International Labor Organization standards in the field of occupational safety and health, combating illegal employment and preventing labor exploitation.

The launch event was attended by representatives of Moldovan authorities, EU institutions, diplomatic missions and social partners.

In her speech, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, stressed the strategic importance of the project for institutional modernization and convergence with EU standards: “The strengthening of the State Labor Inspectorate and the reforms initiated both in the GIT and in the National Employment Agency are crucial for the creation of safe, fair and predictable working conditions. These changes will provide the business community with the necessary confidence to invest, while at the same time protecting workers.”

The main objectives of the project are to modernize legal norms and procedures in the inspectorate’s activities, as well as information tools and systems, to develop the professional competencies of inspectors, to improve risk-based inspection planning and the use of statistical data for this purpose. At the same time, the project will help improve communication of the GIT to increase public confidence in it and cooperation with employers and employees.

The implementation of the project is supported by two EU states, Spain and Slovakia. From April 2025, technical teams from these countries have started the first working missions aimed at assessing the GIT’s capabilities and harmonizing procedures with EU occupational safety and health standards.
