Jungietu: Moldova does not receive a single molecule of Russian gas

Moldova does not buy Russian gas, and the volumes coming through the Turkish Stream pipeline from Russia to Southeastern Europe are sent exclusively to Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia, Logos Press reported.

This was stated by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu during the Parliament’s consideration of a simple vote of no confidence in the state policy in the field of energy and energy security. The Minister called his speech “Progress in the energy sector”.

“Moldova has not contracted any commercial volume of Russian gas molecules. I have already mentioned this last year, referring to the information provided by Platts, which indicated about 40-44 million cubic meters coming to Europe through TurkStream. However, these volumes are commercially contracted by three countries – Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia,” Junghietu said in response to a question from MP Elena Grițco.

Alexandru Stoianoglo asked “until when Moldova will buy gas at a secret price”.

In response, the minister said that the average price of purchases for last year was made public, but specified that some clients still insist on confidentiality:

“The average price of purchases made last year – we are talking about the contracted gas we consume now – has been made public. It is about 38.5 euros, about 35-37 euros (give or take) – the data has been published. Some international energy companies, so that their competitiveness is not affected, prefer to include confidentiality clauses in their contracts. If such data is disclosed, especially the price, there are certain risks that are ultimately transferred to the customer.”

Energocom’s gas reserves and profits

Dorin Junghietu also reported on Moldova’s natural gas reserves. As of November 1, 2025, more than 100 million cubic meters of gas had been accumulated in underground storage facilities in Ukraine. Another 30 million cubic meters are stored in Romania.

MP Angela Kutasevych asked the acting general director of Energocom, Eugeniu Buzatu, where the company’s profit – 790 million lei after tax for 2025 – comes from. The manager replied that Energocom has “the only goal – to make profit”: “At the same time, 25%, i.e. 198 million lei of the mentioned amount, were directed to the shareholder (the state – Logos Press note) in the form of dividends. The remaining funds are used as working capital, means for economic activity. Energocom SA is a commercial company and, according to the Law on Joint Stock Companies, has the sole purpose of making profit”.

From rhetorical questions to the obvious outcome

The deputies of the Action and Solidarity party also participated in the debate. For example, Marcela Adam asked this rhetorical question: “In 2021, we had only 120 megawatts of installations from renewable sources. Today there are 980 – a ninefold increase. When Moldova uses both solar and wind energy, why didn’t the previous authorities invest for 30 years to have renewable energy?”.

After several hours of debate, the draft of a simple vote of no confidence was rejected – it got 38 votes, while at least 51 were needed.

It should be reminded that two weeks earlier the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Katlabuga spoke in the Parliament on a similar issue. The names of other ministers, with whom the MPs want to talk, are also on the rumor. The main candidate so far is the Minister of Defense.

Parliamentary hearings of ministers through a simple vote of no confidence is one of the few instruments of pressure of the opposition on the government.

It is possible, however, that the other ministers, to whom questions have accumulated, will not have to go through such a procedure. The day before, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu made it clear that he may personally come to the Parliament with a report in March or April of this year. The MPs are really waiting for him.
