The IOC losses in 2025 amounted to $39.5 million. For comparison: in 2024, when the Summer Olympics were held in Paris (France), the committee recorded a profit of $1.13 billion.
Financial stability continues
The report notes that as of December 31, 2025, the IOC maintained a stable financial position. The total assets of the organization amounted to $7 billion. More than 70% of this amount ($5.1 billion) came to current assets, the rest – on non-current assets.
Debt obligations amounted to $2.1 billion, i.e. about 30% of the total financial position. The balance of funds by the end of the year was just under $5 billion. The IOC noted that the organization managed to achieve stable performance, despite the volatility of the global economy.
Former IOC President Thomas Bach in 2024 stated that the financial support of commercial partners allowed the organization for the Olympic cycle in 2025-2028 to provide income of $7.3 billion, and for the next four-year cycle – to attract $6.2 billion, by 2029 this figure may increase.
Revenue structure
The IOC is a non-profit organization funded entirely by private partners. The largest part of the income comes from the sale of broadcasting rights and licenses (rights to use symbols for commercial purposes). About 90% of the IOC’s income is redirected to athletes, sports federations and various organizations, and 10% is retained for the development of sport and the committee’s activities.
A significant item of expenditure last year was the organization of the XXV Winter Olympic Games, which are held in Italy from 6 to 22 February. The cost of organizing the Games is estimated at €6 billion at the current exchange rate.
The largest part of them was borne by global private partners of the IOC. The Italian regions of Lombardy, Trentino-Alto-Adige and South Tyrol, where the Olympic competitions are being held, bore some of the costs.
