International banks assessed the business climate in Moldova

Moldova is fully committed to the process of bringing the country's banking sector in line with the European standards in force in the financial sector, has become part of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and is increasingly applying digitalization solutions, Logos Press reported.

This was stated by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu during a meeting on the margins of the Davos Economic Forum with representatives of large international companies and banking institutions – UniCredit, Mastercard, Goldman Sachs Global Institute and DTEK.

During the meeting with Andrea Orsel, executive director of UniCredit, operating in Italy, Germany, Austria, Central and Eastern Europe, the sides discussed the Moldovan government’s commitment to stimulate economic growth, improve the business climate and strengthen the financial and banking sector.

The prime minister also met with the administrative director of Mastercard, Richard Verma. Alexandru Munteanu praised the innovative solutions the company offers in Moldova in the fields of electronic payments, digitalization, cybersecurity and online education.

The prime minister also held a meeting with Jared Cohen, president for global issues at the research and analysis center Goldman Sachs Global Institute. The topics of dialog were regional security, energy, digital economy and cyber security. They also discussed opportunities for the development of the capital market in Moldova.

During a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian company DTEK, which is the largest private investor in Ukraine’s energy sector, the conversation focused on measures being taken to restore access to energy and hot water in Ukrainian regions affected by Russian attacks.
