The event was also attended by the leadership of the current PAG composition, as well as the former Moldovan President Petru Lucinschi and the former chairman of the Moldovan Parliament, Dumitru Diacov, who were invited to the capital on this solemn occasion.

The first chairman of the Halk Topluşu (People’s Assembly – Parliament of the autonomy) Petr Paszali presented to the audience an informative note “On the role of the highest legislative assembly of Gagauzia in strengthening the status of the autonomy”. He noted that it was the first convocation of the autonomy’s deputies that made the greatest contribution to the formation of the legislative basis for the functioning of Gagauzia, as well as to the building of a constructive interaction with Chisinau.

Petr Pashaly told Logos Press after the meeting that the deputies of the first convocation and the current legislators of Gagauzia held serious discussions on the current state of relations between Comrat and Chisinau. The participants came to a common conclusion that it is necessary to establish a permanent working dialog with the legislative and executive authorities of Moldova.

“We consider it wrong that at this stage there are practically no direct contacts between the leadership of the country and the authorities of the autonomy,” Petr Pashali noted. – In conditions when the head of state, contrary to the legislation, does not appoint the Bashkan of Gagauzia as a member of the government, it is necessary to find other mechanisms to represent and take into account the interests of Gagauzia in the highest authorities of the country. For example, to appoint a representative of Gagauz Yeri at the Government and Parliament. Gagauzia is an integral part of Moldova, and all arising problems should be solved together, on the basis of the state approach and mutual respect. This includes working together on the continuity in the relations between different state bodies, in the selection of personnel and many other issues. To this end, we proposed to develop and jointly adopt a Memorandum on relations between Comrat and Chisinau, in order to mitigate or prevent at all the interethnic crisis fomented by certain circles in the country”.

Petru Lucinschi and Dumitru Diacov, who actively participated in the discussions, not only supported the idea of normalizing relations and signing such a Memorandum, but also expressed their willingness to become mediators between the authorities of the country and the autonomy in restoring constructive relations.
