The opposition Tisa party led by Peter Magyar won a convincing victory in the April 12 parliamentary elections, ending the 16-year rule of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

The occasion for Musk’s reaction was the publication of Alex Soros – son of the famous American financier George Soros. Commenting on the change of power in Hungary, Soros Jr. wrote that “the Hungarian people have reclaimed their country.” The head of SpaceX and Tesla disagreed with this assessment, publicly stating that in reality the power in Hungary was seized by George Soros’ organization.

The reaction of X users was polar: some of the audience supported Musk’s position, but many accused him of spreading conspiracy theses and attempting to politicize the democratic process.

The Hungarian election was one of the most significant in Europe in recent years. With a turnout of about 79%, the opposition won about two-thirds of the seats in parliament (138 out of 199), which gives it the opportunity to change the constitution and the country’s course.

Magyar’s victory is seen as a signal of Budapest’s possible return to closer cooperation with the European Union and a shift away from Orban’s policies focused on national sovereignty and closer ties with Russia, Reuters said in a commentary.
