According to him, supermarkets generate a more dynamic shopping basket. “We see that due to a more diversified offer, the sales volume of synthetic detergents in department stores is higher than in branded outlets with household chemicals. The latter are targeted shopping destinations, so they are lagging behind in terms of pace. Thus, our company provides annual sales of such goods worth 300 million lei. And most of them are accounted for by such chains as Local and Linella. This led us to the decision to close our network of household chemical stores “Avocado”. It will be replaced by a new brand, Bonita, which will specialize mainly in cosmetics. We see a similar practice in Romania, where the household chemicals segment has moved into big retail”.
This trend is global: supermarkets remain the fastest growing sales channel for consumer goods. According to experts, its annual growth rate varies between 15-19%.
In 2024, 33 retail chains belonging to 18 companies, including those with foreign capital, will be formed in the retail market.
In the category of industrial goods, the dominant chains today are Casa Curata with 114 outlets, Zolusca with 74, Imparatia Cureteniei with 45, Alina Cosmetic with 30 and Avocado with 13.
In the structure of the consumer basket, household chemicals account for 6%, and care and personal care products – 5%. Dairy products (about 15%), bakery products and fresh vegetables and fruits (12% each), groceries and confectionery (11% each), soft drinks and meat products (10% each) and alcohol (7%) are the main purchases.
