The new systems will be installed in buildings connected to Termoelectrica within the framework of the STEEM project “Sustainable Energy Efficiency Transition in Moldova”.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the individual heating units will allow efficient energy consumption thanks to automatic temperature regulation depending on external weather conditions.

Five companies from Italy, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Romania and Moldova took part in the international tender announced for the selection of the contractor. After evaluating the technical proposals, a price analysis will be carried out in accordance with the rules established by the funding organization.

Termoelectrica SA General Director Jurie Razlovan said that the modernization of the houses will lead to a significant reduction in energy consumption, increase energy efficiency and abandon obsolete equipment, as well as provide flexibility in the operation of the centralized heating system.

As previously reported, 200 multi-storey residential buildings in Chisinau will also be equipped with individual heating units. These are two large residential areas in the Buiucani and Center sectors, as well as several multi-storey residential buildings in the Botanica, Ciocana and Riscanovca sectors. The works are carried out as part of the reconstruction and modernization of the capital’s centralized heat supply.

The STEEM project will be implemented between 2024 and 2029 with a total budget of $54.5 million, of which $50 million will be provided by the World Bank as a loan and $4.5 million as a grant for technical assistance and project implementation support from the Moldova – Development, Sustainability and Opportunities for Well-being (M-GROW) Multilateral Trust Fund (MDTF), managed by the World Bank Group. The founding members of M-GROW include Ireland, Norway, and the United Kingdom.
