Gross agricultural product in Moldova unexpectedly increased

The gross agricultural production in Moldovan farms of all categories increased by 10.2% (in comparable prices) in January-September 2015 compared to the same period of 2024, - reports Logos Press.

Gross agricultural product in Moldova unexpectedly increased

Of particular interest is the fact that, according to the NBS calculations, crop production increased by 21.2% (despite losses due to frost and drought, LP note). At the same time, gross livestock production decreased by 10.9%, despite generous subsidies.

According to preliminary data, the total production of cereals and leguminous crops (excluding corn) amounted to 1880 thousand tons – plus +30% compared to the same period of 2024. Including wheat, farms of all categories harvested 1593 thousand tons (+33%), barley – 223 thousand tons (+11%), legumes – 62 thousand tons (+68%).

In January-September 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year in farms of all categories there was a decrease in livestock production (live weight) by 14.1%, which is due to a decrease in production in agricultural enterprises by 19.2% and in household farms – by 6.5%.

Despite the fact that agricultural enterprises increased milk production by 22.6%. Nevertheless, in farms of all categories production decreased by 0.3% – as a result of its decrease in household farms by 5.3%.

Egg production in farms of all categories increased by 1.0% due to the growth of production in agricultural enterprises by 9.4%. In households, egg production decreased by 5.4%.

As of October 1, 2025, compared to the data as of the same date of the previous year, enterprises recorded an increase in the number of livestock (except for the number of pigs, which decreased by 31.4%). In household farms the number of livestock of all types decreased.
