At the moment, in the regions of Odessa, Dnipro, Kyiv the price for wheat in terms of Moldovan currency is 3035-3155 lei/t, for corn – 3275-3350 lei/t. In Moldova, wholesale purchases are made at 3200 lei/t and 3350 lei/t respectively. The only field crop of the second group, which is more expensive in Ukraine than in Moldova, is sunflower: 10384-10700 lei/t versus 10450 lei/t.
At the same time, market operators claim that import of Ukrainian grain to the Moldovan market is inexpedient due to expensive transportation logistics (as well as export of Moldovan sunflower to Ukraine for processing). At the same time, Moldovan traders are actively competing with each other for uncontracted sunflower for export to the European Union, Turkey, etc.
Earlier Logos Press reported that the Moldovan government decided not to extend the program of licensing of grain imports from Ukraine, and from January 1, 2026 the country will return to the normal import regime. Apparently, also because the import of Ukrainian grain and oilseeds to the Moldovan market is not economically feasible.
