During three days, September 5-7, a jury of 50 international experts, including three experts of Masters of Wine rank, as well as winemakers, wine traders and journalists, tasted more than 1000 samples of sparkling wines from 29 countries presented at the “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles” – 2025 in the Republic of Moldova. Moldovan wines accounted for 10% of the samples registered at the competition. At the tastings they competed with more than worthy opponents both from the world famous wine producing countries of the “Old World” – France, Italy, Spain, etc., and from the “New World” – for example, Brazil, as well as from Asia.
Usually less than a third of the wine samples exhibited at the tasting are honored with “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles” awards. However, a medal of any value received at the “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles” is a signal to wine merchants around the world, virtually guaranteeing the medalist’s presence in prestigious wine catalogs.
During the previous “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles”, Moldovan wines collected eight medals, which was also considered a very good result. This year, on Moldovan soil, Moldovan wines collected more than twice as many medals.
This partly reflects the growing popularity of sparkling wines – both among consumers and producers. Thus, if five-seven years ago, out of approximately three hundred authorized wineries in Moldova, sparkling wines were created by less than a dozen producers, nowadays their number is more than 30.
Stefan Yamandi, Director of the National Bureau of Grapes and Wine: “The 21 medals received by the wines of the national brand “Vinul Moldovei” confirm the international recognition of the quality of sparkling wines produced in the Republic of Moldova. These awards are the result of investments and hard intellectual work of Moldovan winemakers over the years. This is evidence that Moldovan sparkling wines can compete on equal terms with the products of the largest winemaking regions of the world. This success strengthens the position of “Vinul Moldovei” on the world map”.
“Concours Mondial de Bruxelles” was founded in 1994. By now it has become one of the most prestigious international wine competitions. Within its framework, more than 15,000 wine samples are evaluated annually at various sections and qualifying rounds. The tastings are conducted exclusively blind by high-level professionals. The evaluation process is very rigorous, with only the quality of the product being of paramount importance. The medals received at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles are internationally recognized and can influence the decisions of consumers around the world.
