Gheorghe Gaberi: Moldova may harvest the best table grape crop in five years

According to the quoted source, contrary to fears, “the main part of table grape plantations by a fortunate coincidence of circumstances missed all three waves of frosts in April and May and is now in good and very good condition. The May precipitation significantly replenished the moisture in the soil of the vineyards. In addition, if earlier many meteorological resources predicted another severe drought in many regions of Europe, now they promise atmospheric temperatures consistently above 30 degrees Celsius only from July.

“All these factors predispose to the still timid hope that this year’s good harvest of table grapes will be not only on high-intensity plantations like Pergola and Gable, mostly equipped with irrigation systems, but also on classic rain-fed vineyards”, – says Gheorghe Gaberi.

In the last five years the table grape harvest in Moldova is considered good, approaching 100 thousand tons. Last season, despite a relatively weak harvest and its unstable quality, about 67 thousand tons of table grapes and (for the first time!) about 1.7 thousand tons of technical grapes were exported from Moldova.
