The Ministry of Finance has provided clarification on the financing of the First Home program.
The Ministry of Finance clarifies: if a person has submitted an application by March 31, 2026 and meets the established criteria, it will be confirmed and financed. Applicants will receive compensation as usual.
The agency also emphasizes that the confirmation of applications continues. This includes cases where it is submitted after April 1, 2026.
The applicant will be placed on a waiting list
If the applicant meets the criteria and their application is confirmed, they will be placed on the waiting list. Funding will be provided as the budget becomes available.
In addition, the guarantee component of the program is not affected by these decisions.
Recall, the Ministry of Finance announced on Wednesday that it will not accept applications for compensation under the state program “First House”. The process is suspended from April 1, 2026 due to reaching the limit of allocations provided for in the state budget.
At the same time, loans under the “First House” program will continue to be granted.
The Ministry of Finance stressed that the program “First House” in terms of guaranteeing mortgage loans for the purchase of real estate will continue as usual.
The chairman of the parliamentary commission for economy, budget and finance, Radu Marian, said that the authorities intend to change the mechanism of supporting the citizens willing to buy housing. For this purpose, the program will be improved, which will stimulate supply through new construction and more affordable apartments.
A new concept of this program will be presented in the near future.
