First Moldovan medal in women’s boxing at the World Cup

A Moldovan athlete, Daria Sazonova, won the bronze medal at the World Women's Boxing Championships, held in Nis (Serbia).

First Moldovan medal in women’s boxing at the World Cup

In the quarterfinals of the tournament in the weight category up to 81 kg Daria Sazonova faced Nena Zamora from French Polynesia, and our athlete won. In the semifinals she met Asian champion Yeldana Talipova (Kazakhstan) and was defeated. Despite this, she secured the bronze medal.

Daria Sazonova became the first athlete from Moldova in the history of the World Women’s Boxing Championships to win the medal.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the tournament was also attended by Maia Odagiu and Iulia Korol, but they failed to keep their compatriots company on the podium.
