
The reduction is more pronounced in rural areas. In 2025, the number of children there decreased by 3 thousand (-4.8%) compared to the previous year.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, a total of 1,465 kindergartens operated last year, four fewer than a year earlier. Most of them are located in rural areas – 1,114, in urban areas – 351.
Preschool education covered 87.6% of children. Almost all children (99.2%) study in public institutions, and only 0.8% study in private institutions.
The national average is 70 children per 100 places, but the load is significantly higher in urban areas. The greatest pressure is felt in the capital (97 children per 100 places), in Balti (91) and Ialoveni district (87). The lowest rate was recorded in Leova district – 36 children per 100 places.
The preschool education system employs about 30.9 thousand workers, of which 12.5 thousand are pedagogical and managerial staff. 68.8% of teachers have higher education.
On average, there are 12.8 children per teacher, which is slightly less than a year earlier. The level of digitalization is growing: more than 91% of computers are connected to the Internet.
