Frosts as low as -25 degrees Celsius have damaged apple plantations in Poland, which will have a serious impact on the EU fruit market in the coming marketing season, Logos Press reported.

“The country has not been hit by such a cold snap in 20 years, the damage is significant, this year’s apple crop will be smaller than last year’s,” gfactueel.nl quoted a representative of Appolonia, one of Poland’s largest fruit companies, as saying during recent events at the Fruit Logistica trade fair in Berlin.

Poland is the largest apple producer in Europe. Last year, after the spring frosts, Polish horticulture experts issued a very pessimistic forecast of the country’s apple harvest – 3.2-3.4 million tons. Then, by the end of 2025, the forecast of apple production in Poland increased to 3.8-4.1 million tons.
