In real terms, services exports grew by 9.7% and contributed 1.4 percentage points to the overall 2% GDP growth recorded over the same period.

As a result, exports of services now account for about 16% of GDP and exceed exports of goods by about 5%, strengthening the position of the services sector as the main engine of foreign trade of the Republic of Moldova.

IT services, tourism, transportation and business services showed the highest growth rates.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, these data confirm the transition to a service-based economic growth model, with a focus on knowledge-intensive sectors, skills and high added value.

In this context, the ministry stressed the need to further support the development of human capital, digitalization of the economy, improvement of the business climate and internationalization of Moldovan services within the framework of public policies to fully unlock the potential of this strategic sector.

Statistics also show that the services sector has become one of the most dynamic growth areas of the Moldovan economy over the last five years. Between 2020 and 2024, services exports have doubled, increasing from $1.27 billion to $2.7 billion.

Against this background, the recent statement by the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Eugen Osmocescu, that Moldova IT-Park will be closed immediately upon Moldova’s possible accession to the EU, as it does not meet the European requirements for its tax regime, sounded dissonant.

However, the next day after this statement, the Ministry of Economic Development distributed a video clip in which Osmokescu confirms that the simplified taxation regime for residents of Moldova IT-Park will be maintained, as enshrined in the legislation, until 2035.
