According to the calculations of the Association of Agricultural Exporters, while the US dollar was trading at 17.93 lei in June last year, by the end of June 2025 the exchange rate had fallen to 16.83 lei/dollar. Consequently, for the average Moldovan trader who currently sells, for example, wheat at the current regional price of $180/tonne, revenue has fallen by more than 6% (from 3,227 lei/tonne at last June’s exchange rate to 3,029 lei/tonne at the end of June 2025). The difference is significant, especially during the ‘buyer’s season,’ when prices are ‘pressured’ by high global harvests of grains and oilseeds of the first group.
Earlier, Logos Press reported that the potential increase in logistics costs, including the transportation of agricultural products by river and sea, will increase the costs of Moldovan traders and exporters by approximately $5-10/t.
