The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development provided explanations on how the implementation of the program “European Yard” is going. The current situation does not mean that the projects will be canceled. All of them will be continued after the warming weather, the ministry assured.
According to the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova (CALM), the explanations were caused by a lot of citizens’ questions about the reasons for stopping the works under the program, as well as the situation on the construction sites opened in connection with its implementation.
According to the ministry, some types of works, such as pouring concrete, laying paving tiles or building playgrounds, cannot be carried out in compliance with all requirements at low temperatures. Frost would deteriorate the quality of construction and cause additional costs for subsequent repairs.
Where construction sites were opened towards the end of the season, work has been mothballed for the winter and will resume as the weather improves, according to schedules set by the authorities and contractors.
What the program provides for
The “European Yard” program envisages the renovation of multi-storey yards in Chisinau and the capital’s suburbs. Last year, the government allocated 100 million lei for the renovation of at least 4-5 yards in each sector of the city and its suburbs. At the same time, a ceiling of up to 5 million lei per project has been set.
Later, at the end of November 2025, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolya said that the “European Yard” program will be extended to several cities from 2026. “European Courtyards” will appear in Cahul, Causeni, Hincesti and other cities. The program includes 57 courtyards in Chisinau, which are at different stages of implementation, while the expanded list includes 381 courtyards in the capital.
