“This new funding underlines our commitment not only to Ukraine’s recovery, but also to its future as a sovereign and democratic country,” said European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen

As noted by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliya Sviridenko, the money was provided in two tranches. Thus, 3.05 billion euros were received under the Ukraine Facility program for the reconstruction of Ukraine. Another 1bn euros came from the ERA Loans program, which is financed with proceeds from frozen Russian assets.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the EU has sent 168.9bn euros in humanitarian, financial and military aid to Ukraine, the European Commission said in a statement.
