Erdogan promises Turkey nearly trillion liras to support agriculture in 2026

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has pledged to allocate a record amount of nearly one trillion liras (about $23 billion) to support agriculture in 2026 to strengthen the country's position among the world's leaders in the agribusiness sector, Logos Press reported.

The president noted that last year alone, the total amount of support provided to the agricultural sector, including direct financing, credit support, investment allocations, intervention purchases and export support, amounted to 706 billion liras ($16 billion).

“For 2026, we have allocated 939 billion liras for agriculture directly and indirectly. In other words, we will support our producers with a huge amount reaching 1 trillion liras,” the president said, quoted by Anadolu Agency.

He said this at a meeting with farmers at the Halic Congress Center. President Erdoğan congratulated the farmers on Ramazan: “I pray to Almighty God that our fasting, our prayers contribute to the unity and cohesion of all Muslims and the liberation of our brothers from Gaza from oppression.”

Turkey among Europe’s leaders in agriculture

According to the head of state, Turkey is among the top ten in the world and first in Europe in beef production, and among the top ten in the world and second in Europe in chicken meat production.

“Over the past 23 years, we have received about 117 billion dollars of foreign trade surplus in agriculture,” he added.

The president said that despite all the difficulties, various problems and unfavorable conditions caused by the climate crisis, Turkey has made significant progress in agriculture.

“In the field of seeds, we are among the top ten countries in the world. We export seeds to 117 countries,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan pointed out that Turkey ranks first in Europe and seventh in the world in terms of agricultural production, “We rank third in the world in vegetable production and fourth in fruit production. Turkey is among the top three in 21 types of plant products. In raw milk production, we rank ninth in the world and third in Europe.”

The President emphasized that in egg production Turkey is among the top ten in the world and ranks first in Europe, while in fish production Turkey ranks second in Europe.

The Head of State expressed gratitude to all the structures providing leading roles in agriculture at the world level and promised to support them in the future.
