Energy Ministry: Orlovka bombing did not affect the gas sector

Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Jungietu told reporters that Moldova currently imports natural gas only through the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.

“Moldova’s natural gas supply has not suffered, and this is another argument in favor of the fact that our country is going in the right direction – to the European Union.”

The head of the Energy Ministry said that the energy sector works in a normal mode and that preparations for the winter are under way. Energocom has already purchased about 50% of the gas volumes needed for Moldova for the upcoming heating season 2025-2026.

Today, August 6, Russian attack drones hit the Orlovka gas compressor station in the Odessa region. This facility is part of the Trans-Balkan gas corridor: it provides gas pressure boosting for its transportation to Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.

Until recently, Orlovka was a key link in Russian gas supplies to the Balkan countries of Europe. But after transit through Ukraine ceased on January 1, 2025, Moscow is no longer interested in the station. It was reportedly used to supply gas to Ukraine in reverse mode: from Turkey, Greece and Romania.

The throughput capacity of Orlovka is estimated at 55m cu.m. of gas per day.
