Energocom has retained its responsibilities

The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted amendments to its previous resolution, which limited Energocom’s obligations to ensure the reliability and continuity of electricity supplies to March 31, 2025. Now the deadline is set until December 31 this year.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the measures are aimed at ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation of the country’s electricity system. The ministry recalled that in the absence of volumes purchased from MGRES, Moldova’s electricity supply directly depends on imports from the ENTSO-E zone, in particular, from Romania.

In addition, with the end of the heating season, the production of local electricity by cogeneration plants will significantly decrease, which will lead to the need for significant imports of electricity and the identification of alternative producers/suppliers.

According to the Ministry of Energy, extending the deadline to December 31 will also prevent the negative impact of higher electricity purchase prices on the eve of the heating season, and purchasing electricity for a longer period of time and in larger volumes will allow negotiating lower electricity purchase prices.
