Elvis Presley’s iconic guitar will be sold in New York City

It was this performance, known as the Elvis Comeback Special, marked the triumphant return of the artist to the stage after a long break, writes Rolling Stone. Then Presley appeared before the audience in the iconic black leather suit, performing hits that once again made him a symbol of rock ‘n’ roll. Among them were “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Trouble” and “Guitar Man,” accompanied by that very guitar.

According to experts, the cost of the instrument can reach from one to two million dollars. Such a high price is due not only to the rarity of the model itself, but also to its exceptional historical significance. Unlike most of the musician’s guitars, which were acoustic, the Hagstrom Viking II stands out for its electric sound and recognizable design.

In addition to the stage, the instrument is also captured in the artist’s visuals – Presley holds this guitar on the cover of From Elvis in Memphis. This further enhances its cultural value and makes it a desirable object for collectors.

The auction will take place online from April 9 through April 23, and the guitar itself will be on display for public viewing in Sotheby’s New York space. The auction is expected to attract the attention of not only collectors, but also rock music fans around the world.

This lot symbolizes the moment when Presley managed to reconnect with his audience and finally cemented his status as the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, which remains relevant decades later.
