Electricity supplies from Moldova to Ukraine increased

According to the company, energy imports from Moldova and Slovakia increased the most in May 2025 compared to April 2025. At the same time, Ukraine continues to be critically dependent on electricity from Hungary, from where it receives 40% of its imports.

In May 2025, Ukraine reduced its electricity exports by more than 40% compared to April – to 92.5 thousand MWh.

Most electricity was exported to Hungary, almost 37% of the total volume. It is noted that supplies were made both during the hours of solar activity and at night, when consumption is minimal.

Compared to April, exports to Moldova decreased the most. The reasons for the decrease in electricity supplies abroad are not reported.

However, as energy expert Hennadiy Ryabtsev explained, although the EU increased the quota for electricity imports from Ukraine, Europeans do not always need “extra” Ukrainian electricity.

In his turn, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko noted that electricity exports from the country are carried out only if there are no restrictions for Ukrainian consumers.

According to the electricitymaps.com portal, as of the morning of June 6, 77.45% of electricity available in Moldova was imported from Romania (572 MW out of 739 MW), while 35.95% was exported to Ukraine (266 MW out of 739 MW).
