According to the National Health Insurance Company, last year the pre-hospital emergency medical aid service received about 781 thousand calls. The average cost per call amounted to 1,885 lei. The expenses are covered by the Funds of Compulsory Health Insurance.
Almost every third visit was a first-degree emergency, i.e. a critical situation that threatens the patient’s life and requires immediate intervention. More than half of the visits were medical and surgical cases of the II degree of severity, which were less critical but required prompt assistance. Every seventh ambulance call was from persons without mandatory health insurance.
Pre-hospital emergency medical care is a set of medical services provided to people in a serious condition at the place of call, during transportation and, if necessary, before the patient is transferred to a medical institution. These services are provided to both insured and uninsured persons.
The network of units of the National Center for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Care includes 41 emergency medical aid substations in municipalities and cities and 99 in rural areas.
