
According to the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, imports accounted for about 93% of the market, the rest was provided by local manufacturers. In total, about 50 mln packs of medicines were in circulation (minus 3%).
The Agency noted that imported medicines accounted for 93% of the Moldovan market in terms of value and 85.2% in terms of volume. Most of the supplies came from factories in Germany (12% of all imports), Romania (10%), Slovenia (9%), Hungary (8%) and Turkey (7%).
The top 5 imported drugs in terms of turnover were dapagliflozin (hypoglycemic drug), ibuprofen (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug), rosuvastatin (statin to lower blood cholesterol), rivaroxaban (oral anticoagulant) and pancreatin (enzyme drug).
The top 10 largest foreign companies on the Moldovan pharmaceutical market are still KRKA (9.93 million euros), Gedeon Richter (7.83 million euros), Berlin-Chemie (7.25 million euros), GlaxoSmithKline (4.23 million euros), World Medicine (3.95 million euros), AstraZeneca (3.79 million euros), Nobel (3.45 million euros), F. Homann-La Roche (€2.78 million), Bayer (€2.76 million), Sanofi (€2.7 million).
Among local manufacturers, Balkan Pharmaceuticals (EUR 3.34mn) is in the top five in terms of turnover, followed by Farmaprim (EUR 1.64mn), Flumed-Farm (EUR 1.13mn), Eurofarmaco (EUR 0.62mn), ElaDum Pharma (EUR 0.08mn).
The top-selling local medicines were: xylometazoline (vasoconstrictor), rivaroxaban (anticoagulant), tadalafil (prostate treatment), famotidine (gastropreparative) and triprolidine-pseudoephedrine (antihistamine and vasoconstrictor).
The top three importers have remained unchanged for many years – Dita Estfarm (€55.18 million), RihPanGalFarma (€24.83 million), Tetis International (€20.31 million). These players they provide about 80% of all drug imports into the country.
