The idea of a smartphone was actively discussed back in the summer of 2025. The project was associated with the economic policy of Donald Trump, aimed at bringing industry back to the country, writes Financial Times. Donald Trump Jr. also appeared among the initiators. It was even supposed to introduce additional duties on imported electronics to increase pressure on companies such as Apple and Samsung.
However, by the end of 2025 it became known about the suspension of the project. Formally, the reason was given as a crisis in the work of the US government, but analysts point to deeper economic problems. The production of smartphones in the country requires significantly higher costs, and under current conditions it is simply unprofitable. According to experts’ estimates, moving the assembly of the same iPhones to the United States could increase their cost several times.
At the moment, Trump Mobile is actually limited to selling refurbished devices of well-known brands. Despite this, the company continues to accept pre-orders for the future “golden phone” – for a deposit of 100 dollars, while the technical specifications of the device have not yet been disclosed.
Judging by the promotional materials, we are talking about a standard mid-range Android smartphone with a decorative gold body. The estimated price is about $499, plus a monthly subscription fee of $47 for virtual operator services. So far, the project raises more questions than confidence.
