Extreme weather events, drought and large-scale fires are increasingly becoming the main causes of accidents. A total of 231 extreme weather events and 1,634 fires occurred in Moldova in 2024.
The authorities believe that effective risk management should become a national priority. To improve preparedness for such situations and reduce damage, the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) is launching a program to modernize civil protection training. The government plans to consider a relevant decree at a meeting on Wednesday, December 3.
The free courses, held at the IGSU Republican Training Center, will include: assessing disaster risks, identifying response capabilities and developing risk management plans.
The new approach will allow in-house specialists and members of volunteer fire brigades to move from a reactive to a proactive model and better protect the population and critical infrastructure.
