“The regulation of crypto-assets is a commitment undertaken by the Republic of Moldova as part of the EU accession process, as well as the economic growth plan. A draft law on the cryptoasset market is currently being developed. The National Bank of Moldova is working on it, in close cooperation with other state authorities,” Gheorghe Badia, Head of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Department at the NBM, said at a hearing in Parliament.

He informed that the deadline for the approval of this project is December 2026.

At the same time, the chairman of the National Security, Defense and Public Order Commission, Lilian Karp, noted that the National Bank had previously resisted the development of legislation in the field of cryptocurrencies.

The MP added that any phenomenon arising in society should be regulated, otherwise “it goes into the shadows”.

According to experts, over the past 3-4 years, the use of virtual assets has acquired a very serious scale, numbering in the billions. They acquire various forms of application, new spheres and schemes appear. According to experts, the lack of regulation leads to the fact that participants still use these schemes, and the state budget suffers.

Earlier, Logos Press wrote about the National Bank’s efforts to form a regulatory framework for the cryptoasset market – it will include rules for issuers and services, investor protection and market supervision.
