The draft was presented back in the last parliamentary session by PAS party MPs.
The authors argued that the activity of cemeteries in Moldova is regulated by outdated normative acts, and crematoria have no legislative regulation at all.
Because of this, Moldovan citizens are forced to use the services of crematoria in Ukraine and Romania.
The proposed draft provides that crematoria may be established by the authorities or in partnership with private companies. Standards of operation, sanitary and environmental norms would be set by the Ministries of Health and Environment.
Crematorium administrators would be required to keep registers of cremations, regulate access and maintain columbaria. The urn with ashes will be given only to close relatives (1st or 2nd degree of kinship) according to the act of transfer. Cremation of unidentified persons, deceased without documents or foreigners without the consent of the consulate is prohibited.
As Logos Press has learned, the draft will be considered in the near future in parliamentary committees, and then – in the plenary session.
The other day, PAS MP Radu Marian said that if the law is put to a vote, he would support it: “And I think it is logical that the person or family should have the freedom of choice.”
