The initiative is implemented within the framework of a loan agreement between Moldova and Belgium, signed in the summer of 2025, with the aim of increasing the population’s access to safe drinking water.
According to the authority, Q-DROP Yellowstone drinking water purification systems will be installed in selected settlements. The project provides for the installation of 85 such systems with a capacity of about 500 liters per hour in different regions of the country. Each of them is designed to serve up to 1.2 thousand people in rural settlements of the country. In total, the infrastructure created will serve at least 55,000 people in areas where access to clean water is limited.
The settlements will be selected through a competitive bidding process based on the quality and number of applications received. The project funds will cover the purchase, transportation, installation and three-year warranty service of the equipment. An important condition: co-financing from the mayoralties is not required.
They have to issue permits, connect the equipment to the engineering networks and organize its further maintenance. In addition, local administrations must ensure the availability of personnel for training to guarantee technical support and sustainable operation of the facilities once they are commissioned.
In order to submit an application, the mayor’s office must allocate an appropriate plot of land in public ownership, and a local council decision must confirm the allocation of land in a central or frequented part of the settlement and participation in the project.
