Cinematography will be supported financially

Minister of Culture, director Sergiu Prodan

This is the meaning of the amendments to the Law on Cinematography, the draft of which was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on June 24. The country will establish a Cinematography Fund to finance, develop, promote the cinema sphere, implement measures to preserve, protect and capitalize the national cinematographic heritage.

The amendments are also aimed at consolidating the national production of films, so that the volume of their production and other audiovisual works will increase by at least 30% over three years. As well as to stimulate international cooperation and joint productions.

At the same time, the recognition of domestic cinematography abroad will increase. It is assumed that at least 10 films will be selected annually for participation in prestigious international festivals. Also, movie theater managers will be obliged to provide a quota of films in Romanian language, thus contributing to its promotion and national cultural identity.

The bill also provides for the development of film education in schools and communities, continuous training of professionals, the transfer of the Odeon cinema to the National Film Center and its transformation into a publicly accessible center for film exhibition and education.
