This is stipulated in a draft government decision elaborated by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The allowance will increase by 536 lei – from 21,350 lei to 21,886 lei. The relevant legislative amendments will be introduced in the annex No 1 to the regulation on the procedure of assigning and paying allowances to families bringing up children.
According to the legislation in force, the lump-sum allowance at the birth of a child is established in the amount equal to the monetary value of the minimum consumer basket necessary for the birth of a child. The amount is calculated on the basis of the relevant indicators for the year preceding the birth of the child.
The amount of the lump-sum benefit at the birth of a child is approved annually by the Government.
The National Social Insurance Fund estimates that about 36,439 children will benefit from the lump-sum birth allowance in 2026. This will require financial resources amounting to about 802.45 million lei, which should be included in the draft law on the state budget for 2026.
