In the history of the confrontation between Chelsea and PSG, the preponderance is in favor of the French club
This is the first time the Club World Cup has been held in such a format: 32 clubs from six confederations entered the competition for the title on June 14. Until 2023, the tournament was held with the participation of six clubs (one from each confederation) and the club representing the country – the organizer of the tournament. The last winner of the tournament in the old format was Real Madrid.
The total prize fund of the tournament amounted to $1 billion, of which $525 million is distributed among the clubs for participation, and $475 million is aimed at rewarding for sporting achievements. The winner will earn up to $125 million. This amount is comparable to that paid for winning the Champions League, but the Club World Cup lasts one month, while the main European Cup tournament lasts nine (from the general stage to the final).
The club with the most expensive squad participating in the tournament was recognized as Real. The total transfer value of its players exceeds $1.55 billion. English Manchester City has players worth $1.53 billion. The finalists have players of similar value – the squads of Chelsea and PSG are valued at about $1.21 billion each. The club with the cheapest squad is Auckland City (New Zealand), which has players worth $5.35 million.
FIFA replaced the club World Cup with the Confederations Cup, which was previously held a year before the World Cup in the Mundial organizing countries. The last Confederations Cup was held in 2017 in Russia. The winner was the German national team. In 2026, the World Cup will be hosted by three countries – the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Within a month, 64 matches (including the final) of the Club World Cup were held in 12 stadiums in the United States. The clubs were selected based on confederations rankings from 2021 through 2024. Europe received the largest representation, delegating 12 clubs. South America was represented by six clubs, Asia, Africa, Central and North America – four each, Oceania – one. One club from the host country, Inter (Miami, Florida), also played.
