The adjustments are determined by the increase of the minimum wage in the country, which will amount to 6300 lei starting from 2026. Thus, the employees of budgetary units, whose monthly salary, calculated for a position with normal working hours, is lower than this amount, will receive additional payments.
The compensation will be calculated as the difference between the sum of 6300 lei and the monthly salary, recalculated proportionally to the time worked. The new provisions will enter into force on January 1, 2026.
The guaranteed minimum wage in the public sector has been steadily increasing in recent years: from 2000 lei in 2020 to 6300 lei in 2026.
The draft law also provides for a special bonus for special merits in the organization and coordination of crisis management planning and major crises, carried out by employees of the National Crisis Management Centre. The document also includes the provision of additional salary categories for the center’s employees.
According to preliminary estimates, the implementation of this project implies annual financial expenses of about 293.4 million lei. These expenses are envisaged in the draft law on the state budget for 2026.
According to the draft law, next year, the basic minimum rate for some categories of mid-level budgetary employees will rise from 2,200 lei to 2,400 lei, i.e. by 9 per cent. This group does not include employees of educational and medical state institutions.
