BSEC-URTA General Assembly meeting to be held in Chisinau

This was stated during a meeting that the director of the Customs Service, Alexandru Iacub, held with the leadership of the International Association of Road Carriers of Moldova (AITA). According to the CU, they discussed priority topics related to the modernization of customs administration and support of the business environment through efficient digital and logistic solutions.

The discussions focused on international trade facilitation, digitalization of customs procedures and optimization of logistics infrastructure, which directly affects international transit and domestic carriers.

Alexander Jakub reiterated the agency’s commitment to reforms and institutional cooperation, noting that the use of digital tools improves transparency, predictability and competitiveness of international trade. “We are determined to modernize and create, together with the business environment, an efficient customs system in line with European standards,” he said.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the organization of the General Assembly of the Union of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Road Carriers’ Associations (BSEC-URTA), which will be held in Chisinau from 14 to 17 May, as well as the active participation of the Customs Service in this regional event.

Another important topic concerned the realization of the eTIR project between Moldova and Ukraine. The current stages and the steps to be taken in the near future were presented.

At the same time, the director of the CU informed about the implementation of the project on moving the customs terminals from Chisinau outside the city. The project, which is at the final stage of feasibility study, envisages the creation of a modern logistics complex with an infrastructure adapted to the requirements of the cargo transport: multiple ramps, energy autonomy, warehouses, scales, scanners and cold rooms. All these facilities will be owned and operated by the state. Site preparation work is expected to begin by the end of this year, with construction to begin next year. The move is designed to relieve truck traffic in the city limits and provide convenient access for economic operators.

AITA management expressed appreciation to the Customs Service for its work, noting its continued efforts to implement the BQS system, comply with the Convention on Common Transit Procedure, and promote simplification of procedures aimed at reducing waiting times and supporting the activities of carriers.
