“Through this mechanism, we seek support from European partners to quickly mobilize specialized teams and necessary equipment for field work. We are talking about means to collect, retain and eliminate oil contamination in water, as well as mobile stations for testing water quality,” Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said.
The Environment Ministry, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and the National Agency for Public Health have already been involved in the management of the situation.
Earlier, Moldova asked Romania for technical assistance to eliminate the consequences of the pollution of the Dniester River with oil products.
As Logos Press wrote earlier today, the oil flow from Ukraine continues to enter the Dniester River. In this regard, the latest samples taken in the Naslavci area pose a safety threat to the population (class 5). The administration has been advised to stop water supply and not to use river water in this area for domestic needs.
The EU Civil Protection Mechanism is a system for coordinating international assistance in emergencies and disasters. Through this mechanism, an affected country can request support, after which the EU coordinates the provision of specialized teams, machinery and equipment from member states, and partially finances their delivery and work on the ground.
