A meeting of Cabinet members with importers took place on Monday evening. According to the Prime Minister’s press service, they discussed the development of the situation on the fuel market in the context of the war in the Middle East, as well as the measures needed to maintain a stable supply of the country.

“There are things that do not depend on us, particularly the world prices of energy resources and oil products, but we will do our best to maintain a stable supply of fuel and energy resources,” Energy Minister Dorin Jungietu said.

For his part, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said that the authorities have activated the mechanisms envisaged for crisis management, in order to prevent possible supply disruptions. The government assured that it will closely follow the development of the situation on the international markets.

The government did not say which mechanisms were in question. However, earlier, the National Crisis Management Center explained The National Crisis Management Center explained earlier that it is considering the possibility of restricting the export and re-export of gasoline and diesel fuel from the Giurgiulesti port, if the stocks fall below 8,000 tons of gasoline and 25,000 tons of diesel fuel. Also, the authorities plan to speed up the import of oil products through priority customs clearance, to use additional electricity capacity through the lines with Romania, if necessary, to strengthen the protection of strategic infrastructure and data exchange between agencies. And in case of prolonged disruptions, priority in energy supply will be given to agriculture, transportation and medical facilities. State energy reserves may also be utilized.
