Sampling is carried out within the framework of the annual National Food Safety Monitoring Plan. The Agency takes approximately equal number of samples in plant products of local and foreign production imported to RM.

In particular, this year the monitoring of the presence and concentration of nitrates in products is focused on leafy greens and vegetables: iceberg lettuce, spinach (fresh, canned, frozen), arugula, fresh lettuce, as well as cereal products intended for children.

The ANSA release also notes that watermelons, melons and red beets are no longer checked for nitrate content by the agency, as they have been excluded from the list of products with established limits for the content of these substances.
