The changes made to the bylaw will provide greater clarity on the list of properties and the benefits provided.

The inclusion of all exempted items in a separate list will simplify customs formalities, reduce inspection time and ensure equal treatment of all returning citizens.

It will also help to reduce the costs associated with the return process. Often they also influence the decision to move home. Therefore, Moldovan citizens who return to the country for permanent residence will continue to enjoy exemption from import customs duties.

Recall that the exemptions were prolonged for another year. They are valid for persons who have reached the age of 18, who have lived abroad for at least 36 months during the last five years. At the same time, they must have documents confirming the legal stay abroad.

The import of personal belongings and one car is allowed without paying customs duties, provided that the property is intended for personal use and is not of a commercial nature.

There are specific requirements for the car: age – not more than 10 years, value – up to 550 thousand lei, engine volume – not more than 3,000 cubic centimeters, good technical condition, as well as the availability of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate category.

After importing personal property, the citizen is obliged to stay in Moldova at least 183 days a year for three years. During this period it is prohibited to sell, give or transfer the car to other persons.
