In the final bout of the competition in the weight category up to 70 kg, the native of Copceac village (ATU Gagauzia) lost to the American wrestler Peter Duke (5:7). Alexander Gaidarly secured his participation in the big final after a 7:4 victory over Agazadeh. On his way to the podium he won four victories – over representatives of Georgia, Poland, Russia and Azerbaijan.
Thus Gaidarly defended the title of vice-champion of the world under 20 athletes, which he won last year in Novi Sad (Serbia). Then, in the grand final, he lost heavily (0:10) to Magomed Baitukaev of Russia, who was competing in a neutral status.
The silver medal of the 20-year-old athlete allowed Moldova to rise to the eighth place in the team medal standings among 45 countries that delegated freestyle wrestlers to the Youth World Championships.
The World Championships (U-20) in Olympic wrestling will last until August 24.
