As Michelle Iliev, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, explained, the European Commission recommended Moldova to apply for the AI antenna.
“This means that we have local power, a kind of artificial brain that connects to the European grid. Thus, we do not consume local electricity, but use the resources of large AI factories, so-called gigafactories,” Michelle Iliev said.
The financial support of the European partners will amount to 5 million euros, with Moldova providing a similar contribution. This contribution has already been confirmed, including thanks to the existing infrastructure of the Technical University of Moldova, which will initially host the servers needed for the antenna.
What it is for
The project will focus on four priority areas: agriculture, digital government products, medicine and creative industries, with the aim of increasing their productivity.
According to the administrator of Moldova IT Park, Marina Bzovy, the grant agreement should be signed in April.
“First of all, thanks to this connection, Moldova has access to all 13 antennas. It is not only about what we can develop in Moldova, but also about giving companies access to the whole network.
The agreement has not been signed yet, but once it is signed, it will be clearer how and in what format the cooperation mechanisms will be established and what new projects may emerge. It is also about community, international cooperation and what Moldova has to offer. Ultimately, it is about prestige and putting Moldova on the world map of technology and artificial intelligence,” Marina Bzovy said.
