The National Olympic and Sports Committee of Moldova (NOSC) confirmed this information. Thus, our country will be represented by six athletes at the Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo – previously, Alina Stremous, Pavel Magazeev, Maxim Makarov and Julian Lukin were selected for the main Winter Games of four years, and Mikhail Usov will go to Italy as a reserve.
Russian-born Elizaveta Hlusovic is competing for Moldova in biathlon and cross-country skiing. For the 19-year-old athlete, the call-up to the Olympic team was her debut. At the upcoming Games, she will be represented in cross-country skiing. On February 10, the qualification race in the sprint classic style is scheduled for February 10, in which Hlusovic will compete for the next round.
Hlusovic’s best result in the current Olympic season was at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) tournament in Santa Caterina di Valfurva (Italy). She placed 22nd in the 1.5km sprint race. She also competed in the junior biathlon competition. Her highest achievement was 44th place in the mass start at the Junior World Cup in Madona, Latvia.
Hlusovici is the daughter of Natalia Levchenkova, the biathlete who achieved the best result in the history of Moldovan athletes’ performance at the Winter Olympics. In Turin (Italy) in 2006, Levchenkova finished eighth in the 15 km individual race, the most difficult discipline in biathlon.
The XXV Winter Olympic Games will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in northern Italy from February 6 to 22. About 2.9 thousand athletes from more than 90 countries will take part in them.
