According to expert estimates, by the beginning of the last month of 2025, at least 10-15% of corn fields in Moldova have not yet been harvested. The slow pace of corn harvesting since October is explained by the fact that farmers concentrated resources on sunflower harvesting and counted on favorable weather conditions for corn harvesting in late autumn. However, due to November precipitation, the conditions for completing the harvesting campaign did not improve but worsened, the moisture content of corn grain, at least, did not decrease.
Beet growers found themselves in an even more difficult situation. Before the prolonged rainfall last month, farmers, according to their own estimates, managed to harvest sugar beet from at best 50% of the area under this crop. For three weeks now, sugar beet harvesting has been going on at an unusually slow pace due to the fact that heavy agricultural machinery is far from being able to “enter the field” everywhere. It is obvious that the sugar beet harvesting campaign will not be completed in December. In this situation, a combination of dry and moderately cold weather would be the most favorable, sparing (crop quality).
However, specialists of the Hydrometeorological Service of Moldova forecast a relatively warm December, with precipitation close to the average statistical norm.
