The specialized ministry explains it by the need to optimize the network of vocational education institutions, to use state resources more efficiently and to strengthen the material and technical base.
“Maintaining two separate institutions with a close professional profile limits the potential for integrated development and reduces the efficiency of human and financial resources utilization,” the Ministry of Education and Research believes.
It points out that the institution has systematically failed to fulfill its enrollment plan in recent years. In the 2025-2026 academic year, the college has 40 students.
It should be noted that the institution implements two educational programs – “Mechatronics” and “Technological Industrial Equipment and Accessories”. Both programs were introduced at the request of economic agents – residents of the Free Economic Zone “Balti”, subzone “Straseni”. The very establishment of the college in 2018 was positioned as a “forge of personnel” in the field of engineering and industrial production in the region.
Funding for the reformed institutions in 2026 is as follows: Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics – LE 37,310,000; College of Engineering in Straseni – LE 1,436,500. The total amount of budgetary funds envisaged for vocational education in Moldova is 754.1 million lei.
We shall remind you that earlier the government decided to take over the Cahul State University “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” by the Technical University of Moldova.
