A new outbreak of African swine fever has been reported in Europe

According to data published by the European Commission, the highest number of ASF infections was recorded in Serbia – 19, Croatia – 11 and Bosnia and Herzegovina – 1. However, according to PigUA.info, the most alarming situation is in Estonia, where an outbreak of ASF was previously reported at the industrial pig farm Ekseko, owned by Maag Agro. The farm, where about 50 thousand pigs were kept, had to destroy 27 thousand pigs.

In this regard, it is appropriate to recall that in March-April of this year, more than 120 thousand pigs were destroyed at the two largest pig farms in Moldova due to the ASF outbreak. At the same time, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova, as of January 1, 2025, there were 379.6 thousand pigs in all categories of farms. To date, the Food Safety Agency has not yet officially announced whether the cycle of pig breeding on these farms has been resumed.
