A new bridge to Europe will appear on the Moldovan-Romanian border

It will be the second new four-lane bridge after the bridge in Ungheni, which is part of the A8 highway and is due to be completed in 2026.

The existing bridge in Albica (Vaslui county), built in 1954, will be used until the new one is completed, and then it will be demolished, as studies conducted by the relevant ministry show that reconstruction is not justified and a new bridge is needed.

The new bridge to be built in Albica has an estimated cost of 260 million Romanian lei, of which 180 million lei for the works themselves. Its length will be 420 meters, including ramps, and the works will last 24 months, according to the documentation consulted by the Romanian publication Economedia.

The construction tender requires the Romanian government’s approval of the technical and economic indicators.

The site of the future bridge is located in the rural area of Drinceni, Vaslui county, belonging to Romania, in the area of the Albica customs and on the border with the Republic of Moldova, in the area near the Leuseni customs.

No land alienation is required for the construction of the bridge. Half of the land plot on which the temporary transport option will be built is located on Romanian territory and is managed by Apelor Române, and half is located on Moldovan territory under the control of Moldovan customs authorities.

The new bridge will be connected to the axis of the national road DN 24B – Romania and M1 – Republic of Moldova. It will also connect to the future Tisica-Albita expressway (140 km).

The new engineering structure is being built within the CEF – Connecting Europe Facility program. Accordingly, the total cost of the project amounts to 87.5 million euros, of which the EU funding is 50%, or 43.7 million euros. The CEF support requested by the Romanian beneficiary amounts to about EUR 17 million.
