The journalist analyzed thousands of cypherpunks’ posts and found matches in the writing style that pointed to the Blockstream founder. Carreiro also examined hundreds of court records and emails. The investigation took 18 months.
“The bitcoin creator had been hiding under the alias Satoshi Nakamoto for 17 years. But a chain of clues lost in the depths of the cryptoworld led to a 55-year-old computer scientist named Adam Beck,” writes John Carreiro.
The occasion was the 2024 documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery. In one scene, Back was sitting on a bench in Riga and tensed up when the filmmaker named him as the possible creator of the first cryptocurrency.
Carreiro, who claims to be able to recognize lies, found the cryptographer’s behavior suspicious.
